If you do not appear in person or respond in writing to the Court by your court appearance date (which appears in the lower section of your citation):
The total base fine will be imposed, plus additional fees.
The Court will immediately, issue an arrest warrant for failure to appear and / or the Department of Driver Services will be notified, resulting in driver's license suspension.
You may clear a warrant by paying the full amount due. The person who has the warrant, must be the person to come to our office and pay the full amount of the warrant.
You cannot send someone on your behalf. You will be given a new court date, if your citation requires an appearance in court. It is highly recommended that you call us at (770) 385-2141 before appearing in our office.
If you appear in our office and do not have the full amount for the citation / warrant, you will be arrested.
Another option is that you can turn yourself in at the Newton County Jail / Sheriff’s Office, located at. 15151 Alcovy Rd, Covington, GA 30014. You may bond out with the full amount (cash only).

HOW TO HAVE SOMEONE RELEASED FROM JAIL: You must either bond out, or you will be brought over for court.
VIOLATION OF PROBATION: If this warrant has been issued for your arrest, you can either turn yourself in at the Newton County Sheriff’s Office and wait to be brought over for court or you may contact the probation company, Judicial Alternatives of Georgia (JAG) at (770)-385-3367. - No hats, shorts, skorts, mini skirts, tanktops, tubetops or undershirts
- No clothing with profane or vulgar language

What happens if you fail to appear in court?
If you fail to appear for your scheduled court date, a warrant will be issued for your arrest. For certain violations, the Department of Driver Services will be notified of your failure to appear and your driver's license will be suspended.
What happens if you can't come to court on your scheduled court date?
The Municipal Court Clerk can grant a one-time continuance of a scheduled court date upon good cause shown. If you will be out of town, have a medical situation, or a family emergency, please contact our office at (770) 385-2141 before your scheduled court date to discuss a continuance of your case.
