The Covington/Newton County Chamber of Commerce is a nearly 50-year-old business advocacy organization with 600 dues paying members. It is the “voice of business” for Newton County and is woven into much of the business and political organizations within.

The Chamber has a professional services contract with both the City of Covington and Newton County to provide the primary economic development marketing for both. A full-time economic development director provides full-time representation with the backing of the president. Together they provide a highly-skilled and experienced team for Newton County.

Under that umbrella, the Chamber directs the activities of the Existing Industry Council for the purpose of retaining and expanding our existing industry base.

The Chamber also directs the Workforce Development Committee for the purpose of working with the Newton County School System and DeKalb Technical College to provide a capable workforce for our industries.

The Industrial Development Authority has a Chamber appointee on the Board and hosts meetings in its offices. The Chamber also provides office space for the Newton Mentoring, Inc. program and the Chamber president chairs that effort.

From a regional perspective, the Chamber has three-seats on the Board of the Regional Business Coalition, a sixteen-county group that lobbies the Georgia General Assembly for water and transportation issues of the metro-Atlanta region.

In total, the Chamber of Commerce provides a wide variety of local, regional and statewide representation for a broad spectrum of business and community service.
