Gas Meter Change-Out Project: Mansfield, Newborn & South/SE Side of Newton County
The City of Covington's Natural Gas Department started the Gas Meter Change-Out Project in July 2025 and it is estimated to be completed within three years.
September 09, 2026
Currently, as of September 9, 2026, the gas meter change-out contractors are within proximity of Mansfield, Newborn, and south/southeast side of our gas system. If you live in or around Dixie Road, Mansfield, Newborn, Hwy. 36, Stewart Community, or in the south/southeast Newton County area, our technicians will be working to change out your gas meter between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. over the next couple of weeks.
Subsequently, our contractors will be in other areas over the upcoming few weeks working to change out some of our residential gas meters also.
What is the Gas Meter Change-Out Project?
The project involves replacing old residential gas meters with newer, more advanced models. This will help enhance the overall efficiency of our gas distribution system. To adequately change out meters, please allow:
- Access to Property: Our technicians, with identification and appropriately marked vehicles, will need access to your property to perform the gas meter and regulator replacement. Please ensure the meter area is clear and accessible.
- Relights: Any relighting of a gas appliance will be conducted by our technicians immediately following the meter change out or at an appropriate time via hang tag notification.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the City of Covington's Natural Gas Department at 770-385-2000. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue this important project. Our team is dedicated to providing you with the best and safest possible service. Please share with your friends and neighbors who are City of Covington Natural Gas customers.
