From police and fire department first responders that are second to none to the County's state-of-the-art 911 Dispatch Center, Covington residents and guests have access to some of the best services in the country. The city boasts four accredited departments and 350 employees who work every day with the singular goal of making Covington the finest city in the South.

The Covington Fire Department is one of only six accredited agencies in the State of Georgia recognized by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Click here to see why the CFD is recognized as an industry leader Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service.
The City of Covington's Public Works Department received their third re-accreditation in 2018 with a 100 percent passing rate. Only 138 Public Works Departments in the United States and Canada are accredited and Georgia is home to only three of those 138.
In 2006, the Georgia Municipal Association designated the City of Covington as a City of Ethics. The voluntary program encourages cities to adopt and adhere to a set of key ethical principles and a comprehensive model ethics ordinance. See why that is important by clicking here.
In January 2003, the City of Covington was one of 10 cities to be awarded the 2003 City of Excellence Award, presented by the Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Trend Magazine. The winners were judged against 14 criteria, such as fiscal management, public safety, citizen participation, cultural activities, community partnerships and downtown viability.
The city was first awarded a CAFR in 2015. The City is required to annually submit financial statements to the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounting, but the creation of a CAFR is an extra report that provides in-depth information about the city.
