Juneteenth Parade & Festival

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and is a blend of the two words "June" and "nineteenth." To celebrate the upcoming holiday, there will be a Juneteenth parade in Covington on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Presented by the Newton County Historical Committee on Black Preservation, the parade will start at 10 a.m. and travel from Legion Field through the Square. Join us in celebrating Juneteenth in Covington and the freedom it represents...a jubilant, joyous, triumphal occasion!
Follwing the conclusion of the parade, the Newton County Historical Committee on Black Preservation will continue the celebration from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Old R.L. Cousins High School, located at 8134 Geiger Street in Covington, with family friendly festivities including:
