Independence in the Park: An Annual July 4th Tradition!

Music, fireworks and family fun are on the schedule for Independence in the Park! Below are some reminders about the event including a link to the Red, White & Go Traffic Plan that will make it easier to leave once the festivities are over.
 
  • Operation Red, White and Go! is designed to make traffic egress as expeditious as possible and lane closures will start going into effect at 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Everyone is encouraged to be in place to watch the fireworks before the traffic plan goes into effect.
  • Spectators should note that how they traveled to their destination may be different from the route they are directed for their travel back home. 
 

 

  • Fireworks begin at 9:45 p.m. If you're not on the Square but watching within close proximity, tune into 90.3 FM to hear the music to which the fireworks are choreographed.

 

  • All parking on the Square and roads into the Square will close at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, to prepare for the Independence in the Park celebration.

 

  • A portion of Clark Street, in front of and west of the courthouse will be closed on July 3, 2023 and July 4, 2023 for stage set up. Therefore, you will only be able to turn left onto Monticello from the Square.

 

  • Church Street between Washington/College and Reynolds Street will close at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 and stay closed for the remainder of the festivities.

 

  • Handicap parking will be available at the old bank building, which is next to the Courthouse, and in the parking lot of the Lofts on the Square (only the portion that is not covered....do not used the covered parking as that is reserved for residents) which can be accessed via Elm Street since Church Street will be closed

 

  • Parking is not allowed in the fireworks fallout zones. These areas will be marked with signage. Public parking is allowed in public lots outside of the fallout zone including the parking deck and legally marked on-street parking that's not within closed areas. Vehicles must be removed from the Square before 4 p.m. on July 4th.

 

  • Bring your blankets or chairs. Yard games will be set up along Pace Street. Some restaurants on the Square will be open and there will be a few food vendors set up on Church Street. Since it's summer in the south, it may be a good idea to bring an umbrella too!
