Volunteer Board Openings for CPC, BOAA & HPC
There are currently openings on three of the City of Covington's Planning and Zoning governed boards (Planning Commission, Board of Appeals & Adjustments, and Historic Preservation Commission) and we are looking for volunteers!

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Interested individuals must meet the below qualifications and submit a biography or resume to City Clerk Audra Gutierrez via email (agutierrez@cityofcovington.org) or drop it off at Covington City Hall (2194 Emory Street NW, 30014) to City Clerk Gutierrez's attention. - COVINGTON PLANNING COMMISSION (CPC): ONE (1) OPENING AVAILABLE
- CPC members shall be residents of the city, none of whom shall hold any other public office or position with the city of Covington. When possible, the chair and at least two other members of the Planning Commission shall be professionally qualified in the fields of planning, architecture, landscape architecture, civil engineering, real estate, building construction or related fields. Meetings for the CPC are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month unless there is a need for a Special Called Meeting. Meetings are only called if there is business to conduct.
- The Planning Commission’s purpose includes conducting public hearings, requesting and receiving studies/reports from staff, and reviewing and making recommendation to the Mayor and City Council concerning matters brought before them. These matters may include proposed amendments to Comprehensive Plan, zoning ordinances, official zoning maps, applications for SUPs, advisement to the City government on environmental policy, community development, housing, transportation, land use issues, and capital improvements.

- COVINGTON BOARD OF APPEALS & ADJUSTMENTS (BOAA): FOUR (4) OPENINGS AVAILABLE
- BOAA members must be City residents holding no other office or position with the City, except one member may also serve on the Planning Commission. Members serve three years, or until successors appointed and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. Terms expire July 1st. Meetings for the BOAA are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month unless there is a need for a Special Called Meeting. Meetings are only called if there is business to conduct.
- The Board of Appeals and Adjustments shall have the power to hear and decide variances pursuant to Section 16.12.170 and to hear and decide appeals pursuant to Section 16.12.180(A).

- HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION (HPC): ONE (1) OPENING AVAILABLE
- All HPC members shall be residents of the city, a majority of whom shall be "persons who have demonstrated special interest, experience, education or aptitude in history, architecture or historic resource preservation.” Active participation and attendance at meetings, unless excused, is a requirement. Meetings for the HPC are held on the 1st Wednesday of the month unless there is a need for a Special Called Meeting. Meetings are only called if there is business to conduct.
- Purpose/duties include being a part of the planning functions of the City and may be consulted by the Planning Commission concerning plans and actions affecting historic properties and districts.
