January 09, 2025
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 to 7 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025. However, this is subject to change. Currently the US National Weather Service is advising us to plan on hazardous travel conditions and based on this information, there is also an advisement to STAY OFF OF THE ROADS during this time.
Preparing for this type of weather includes pre-planning. Suggestions from Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency to prepare for extreme winter weather include:
- Charge cell phones before the weather moves in
- Keep heat sources at least 3-feet away from flammable items
- Have backup heat sources such as extra blankets and sleeping bags easily accessible
- If using a generator, it should be outside and at least 20-feet from doors, windows, or vents to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Allow pipes to drip or insulate them to prevent freezing.
- Keep pets indoors and check on elderly or disabled relatives and neighbors.
