Snow is expected to move into Covington/Newton County around 6 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026 (although it could arrive earlier).
The beauty and the fun of the light, fluffy snow we are expecting masks the potentially hazard conditions the snow, wind, and below freezing temperatures can create. Not to be redundant, but......

❄ Road impacts due to the snow will be immediate, creating slick surfaces and hazardous driving conditions. Gusty winds will also be blowing snow which will reduce visibility. For your safety and the safety of emergency personnel and on call crews, please stay off the roads.

⚡ Power outages are possible! The gusty winds anticipated throughout Saturday can create issues. Please be prepared with safe heating options and continuously check on vulnerable populations. Make sure your communication devices are charged. If you experience a power outage, our Electric Department team will get a notification of the outage. Please do not call 911 to report an outage. If you need to report an outage, call 770-385-2000.

❄ COLD🥶TEMPERATURES - Enjoy the snow, but limit your time outdoors and make sure you cover exposed skin. The temperatures we are expecting, especially Saturday evening into Sunday, increase the chance of cold related illnesses. Bring your pets indoors.

💧Can't talk about freezing temperatures without addressing dripping your faucets especially with the sub-freezing temps headed our way. The threat of pipes bursting increases in extreme cold so drip your faucets, open cabinet doors to circulate warm air, and insulate any exposed pipes.
